Adopting the Agile Approach to Program Design

McMaster CE course development team will describe their experience transitioning to an Agile-inspired process for program and course design.

Creating pedagogically sound online programs and courses while managing the resource constraints of continuing education institutions requires the development of rigorous and efficient design processes to which all team members adhere. There are multiple approaches, often rooted in the principles of Project Management, that can inform these processes—some more rigid and linear (e.g., the 'Waterfall' approach), others more fluid and adaptive (e.g., the 'Agile' approach). Having recently reorganized their online course development team, McMaster Continuing Education has correspondingly shifted their design and development approach from a more linear to a more flexible one inspired by Agile principles. That this transition coincided with the work-related disruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic made adopting an Agile approach all the more necessary.

In this webinar, the presenters from the McMaster CE course development team will describe their experience transitioning to an Agile-inspired process for program and course design, focusing in particular on both the benefits and drawbacks of leveraging this approach in the particular context of continuing education.
