Micro-credentials, Durable Skills, & the Future of Lifelong Learning

October 21, 2025 at 1:30 pm ET

In an era where career paths are increasingly non-linear and shaped by rapid technological, economic, and social change, students and recent graduates face both uncertainty and opportunity. This webinar will explore how Ontario’s postsecondary institutions are supporting learners throughout a lifetime of career growth, adaptation, and reinvention – not just at the start of their professional journeys.

Drawing on research from eCampusOntario we examine how micro-credentials, certificates, and other forms of continuing education can help adult learners build on the value of their undergraduate education, upskill and reskill over their lifetimes, and communicate their strengths to employers.

Skills for Jobs Canada extends this vision at a national scale by connecting learners with short-duration, labour market–aligned training opportunities from colleges, universities, Indigenous institutes, and training providers across the country. Through integrating labour market information into its platform, it enables individuals to identify in-demand skills, explore career prospects, and align their learning choices with evolving workforce needs. This approach ensures that Canadians can access the right opportunities at the right time, supporting meaningful career progression and resilience in a rapidly changing economy.

Post-secondary education is evolving to meet learners where they are and to help them get where they want to go. By embracing lifelong learning and investing in systems that make durable skills visible, Ontario’s institutions and organizations like eCampusOntario are preparing students for success in a world that never stands still.
