Bridging between MC and Industry

As the demand for flexible, workforce-aligned learning grows, Universities and Continuing Studies programs are increasingly exploring Micro-credentials as a way to bridge academic knowledge and industry needs. This session examines how UNBC Continuing Studies collaborated with academics and industry partners to transform traditional academic courses into high-quality, industry-relevant micro-credentials. Using the Forest Health and Harvest Micro-Credential as a case study, the session highlights how this process creates accessible learning pathways for non-traditional learners while maintaining academic rigor.

The session explores organizational structures and workflows that support sustainable micro-credential delivery. Rather than prescribing a single formula, the session emphasizes reflection on lessons learned, emerging practices, and effective ways to bridge academia and industry. Attendees will gain insights into designing micro-credentials that are rigorous, flexible, and workforce-focused, with ideas for applying these approaches across disciplines and programs.
