Professional Development Committee

About the Committee

CAUCE has, as one of its priorities, a mandate and a commitment to the ongoing professional development of staff at member institutions, and of subscriber members. To this end, the Professional Development Committee has a very broad authority to conduct needs assessments, recommend programs to the Executive and, with Executive approval, to design and offer professional development programs. In its work, the Committee will be conscious of regional professional development priorities and work closely with the Ontario Council for University Lifelong Learning, the Atlantic Provinces Association for Continuing University Education, and the Western Deans and Directors Group to assure optimal use of member resources for this activity.

Members of the Professional Development Committee shall be recruited from the membership-at-large and approved and appointed by the Executive for a term of two years, with a maximum of six years on the Committee.

The Committee will focus on the following:

  1. to work with the host of the annual conference in jointly planning the format and content of the Professional Development Day, as well as present a concurrent session with the hosting institution retaining full responsibility for physical and administrative arrangements;
  2. to work with the Bulletin, other CAUCE publications and, where possible, other adult education associations to assure widespread dissemination of knowledge about planned professional development events;
  3. to consider the provision of support for interest-specific groups and their subsequent role in professional development (e.g., Deans/Directors, marketing specialists, administrators);
  4. to assess the need for annual practice and management seminars, working with member institutions at the regional and local levels to assure effective use of member resources in professional development programming, and with consideration given to a range of possible programming suppliers and delivery means; and,
  5. to consider the role of distance education and distance education technology in professional development of university continuing educators.
