Director, Continuing Professional Education, School of Continuing Studies

Founded in 1959, York is Canada’s third largest university and is shaping the global thinkers who will define tomorrow. York’s community is strong — with more than 55,000 students, 7,000 faculty and staff, and 260,000 alumni worldwide. Launched in early 2015, the new School of Continuing Studies has fast become one of the largest and most innovative of its kind in the country. The School is living its mission of “transforming people who will transform the world” by offering the full spectrum of continuing education programming: non-credit programs, credit certificates, university preparation courses, and providing access to undergraduate degrees. With unique program designs, support of industry thought-leaders, and top-quality programs, the school is increasing the University’s adult and international student population and is central to the University’s overall growth strategy. Exponential growth in the last two years, and the development of a strong brand (recognized in the local, national and international markets), provides a solid base upon which to build this portfolio.

The University is seeking a dynamic individual to assume a leadership role in this exciting new enterprise. Reporting to the Assistant Vice-President, Continuing Studies, the Director, Continuing Professional Education will provide leadership and management to York’s continuing professional education portfolio and oversee the team responsible for identifying, developing, and delivering new programs. As Director, you will build strong relationships internally and externally; effectively manage, coach and mentor staff; oversee finances, marketing and market research; and develop and implement strategic business plans. You will lead the team to identify new opportunities for market-driven professional education programs, forecast which programs will be successful, build compelling business cases, and supervise the development and management of programs to meet enrolment and financial targets.

As the ideal candidate, you bring leadership experience from a post-secondary environment and a graduate degree. You understand the importance of developing strong relationships to effectively navigate a complex, collegial, multi-stakeholder environment. Strategic, adaptable and innovative, you generate creative solutions and handle anything that comes your way. You can successfully navigate change and growth by developing and executing business plans, ensuring clear communication with internal and external partners, and maintaining a sense of humour in all situations. You possess superior business acumen, critical thinking, and project management skills. With an appetite for challenge and rapid experimentation, you are excited by the opportunity to play a key role in building something of consequence at a premier institution.
